PERSONAL DEFENSE

Personal Defense Television

Because you don't know what you don't know

Crime happens. We know that, and we incorporate that fact into our lives. You are careful, you stay alert, and you own guns. In fact, for decades, personal protection has been the number one reason for ownership of guns. You have a closet full of guns, so you must be prepared.

Right?

Not a chance.

Odds are that you are a good shot. And you're the "go-to" guy at the range when people have questions about guns. But if you are like most shooters, you probably don't know beans about using a gun for self-defense. Sorry, but them's the facts.

Of course, you think you know about how to use a gun for personal protection, but there's a saying that covers this: You don't know what you don't know. But don't worry. We can get you started in the right direction.

We created Personal Defense TV, a weekly half-hour show that airs on The Outdoor Channel. We know that you can't become a high-speed, low-drag, black-clad, super Ninja just from watching television. And that's not our goal.

What you can do, though, is find out all the areas of training you didn't even know existed. (You don't know what you don't know, remember?) This show exposes you to the world of advanced personal-defense training, teaches some cool techniques, and lets you have some fun along with us.

Tom Gresham, PDTV's host, has assembled an all-star cast of self-defense and firearms experts. With decades of real-world law enforcement and training experience, these trainers take you through daily life choices to keep you and your loved ones safe.

PDTV is not one of these "black pajama" tactical shows that makes you think all crime is like something out of a Charles Bronson movie. PDTV is all about real people and real personal defense, including establishing a self-protection mindset and working on an action plan.

Each week Gresham visits the top self-defense training schools in the country--including Gunsite, Smith & Wesson Academy, Thunder Ranch, and Valhalla--and PDTV brings their personal-defense teaching concepts right into your living room. The instruction ranges from creating an awareness mindset to clearing a house. Massad Ayoob provides a weekly "Action Plan" that helps viewers avoid dangerous situations and shows how to handle them if everything else fails. Firearms expert Dick Metcalf shares his knowledge of the latest "Survival Tools" you need to keep you and your family safe. And "Skills Drill" features the incomparable Clint Smith who leaves you with self-defense homework assignments you can practice on your own.

Just a small sample of the hardware you can look forward to includes Gresham visiting the S&W Academy to settle the question of revolver or auto pistol for self-defense--the answer is...yes. He'll use Hornady loads to cover bullet choice and put to rest (for a week) the myths about shotguns and rifles for personal defense. Instructors use Springfield's XD pistol as the platform to show you how to keep a gun in the fight, and how to effectively use a flashlight from different positions. Metcalf has a startling argument for why he thinks the Taurus "Judge" revolver is the ultimate gun to have in a car, and he helps you build the ultimate AR15 for personal defense with the help of TAPCO and Trijicon.

Ayoob explains how to choose a "safe" ATM machine, what to look for before entering a convenience store, and what to say to the police if you do have to defend yourself.

PDTV is not exclusively a gun show. It's also about personal defense and as such covers everything from machineguns to hands and feet and knives. It stresses the need for training, awareness, avoidance, and winning a fight.

Personal Defense TV is on The Outdoor Channel. Dish and DirecTV subscribers can add that channel for $1.99 a month by asking for it "a la carte." If your cable system doesn't carry TOC, make some noise, or do what many have done--switch to satellite. The show is that good.

On PDTV you'll see shooting at ranges that is measured in inches, shooting inside of houses, shooting from your back, using a rifle inside your home, fighting with a knife, defending against a killer robot (hey, we said this stuff is fun!), and you meet the country's top instructors who can entertain as well as help you stay alive. And there are some cool guns and gear, too. How ya gonna beat that? Tune in. You'll love it!
